3 Steps to IB Success

Conquering the IB and getting the exam grades you need

The IB is hard. It’s difficult and it’s scary. But you can beat it. In 3 steps I’m going to show you how to get the grades you need to create the future you want.

  • You’re going to accept the truth.
  • Then, you’re going to see the path.
  • Then you’re going to fight.

Accepting the truth.

A lot of students struggle with the IB. Maybe you’re struggling because your teacher sucks. Maybe you’re struggling because your school is disorganised. Maybe the work you are given isn’t hard enough – maybe it’s too hard! There are a thousand reasons why the IB is tough – but here’s the truth – it don’t matter. It doesn’t matter because the IB don’t care about how bad your teacher was. They don’t care that your hamster died the night before the exam and they don’t care about how scary it all was. All the IB care about is how well you answer questions. That’s the truth. Now there is only one question left – what are you going to do about it?

Seeing the path.

This is a crucial stage in your IB battle. Seeing the path means seeing where you are seeing where you want to be, and connecting them together. The secret is to identify your goals and then to break them down until you can manage them. Let’s think about a goal. Maybe you want to get a 7 in History. That seems like a big goal, but let’s break it down: • Find a genius friend and ask for their help (study groups, revision sessions etc.) • Work through the textbook – a few pages per day and you’ll conquer it soon • Do two questions a day (on top of school work) – that’s sixty questions a month! These are just examples. Seeing the path means making a goal and figuring out the little steps that will lead you there. You can do this, use your initiative, use your ambition.

Fight.

Here’s a simple question. How much do you want success? The answer to that simple question will define how well you do in the IB. Once you’re free of excuses and you see the way to success there is only one question left – how much do you want to get there. The more you want to be successful the longer you will keep fighting. Want a 7 in Chemistry, Maths or English? You can have it. But do you want it? How much? Ask yourself right now: ‘do I want to succeed?’ If the answer is yes, then make a plan and take the first step. I promise, you won’t regret it.
